Head-hunters

September 14, 2006

Your kampung got head hunters ah? You guys live on tree top ah? Got TV broadcast or not? Haha.. these were some of the funny culture-shocked questions I got from my university mates when I did my first degree in Universiti Malaya years ago.. And the big joke was, the questions popped out from fellow undergraduates!! I wonder how did they qualify for university..hmmm..don’t they know that Sarawak has developed so much that we have big satellite dish to receive hundreds of channels? And we travel from one town to one town by aeroplane or speed boat? I was wondering whether they were just pulling my legs…

Fast forward to today.. been receiving emails and phone calls from head-hunters, from as far as Singapore! If you ask anyone from the corporate world, most of them would just love to receive calls from head-hunters. It automatically means a higher-paid job coming in your way, a step-up rank which you have been aiming, there is no guarantee of a better working environment though. And at the same time, you will know your market values and could use it as a platform to "threaten" your boss for better increment!

Disclaimer : You may not quote this blog when you negotiate your next salary increment with your boss. This is purely personal opinion of this humble blogger.

Aha..I am just wondering whether more hunters will head this way when they see the front cover in the next month issue of a ..ahem.. business magazine.. (I have a gag order until the issue is published)

It is really a priviledge or shall I say, a big boost to our ego just to know that we are worth more than what we are getting now. A lot of times, we are just too comfortable and contented with what we are having currently to the extent that we just turn a blind eye and a deaf ear even when something better drops right in front of us.

Reading this blog has actually inpired me to post this entry. Most people are either non-risk takers or suffering from inferior complex. Moving on to another job especially if you have been working there for a long time, means taking a big risk. What if the boss is a nasty fella, what if the subordinate is uncooperative, what if the other colleagues are just too hot to handle? What if, what if, what if? Come on lah.. the higher $$ and position is the insurance to cover whatever risks you are taking, if there are any.

Me? I will not leave my present company for another company, not because I am a non-risk taker. The only reason if and when I leave my present company would be to pursue the residual income career, which is much, much, much more challenging than just moving on to the next head-hunter’s offer.
