Amazing Body Adventure

September 11, 2006

We did not know about such exhibition until we received a complimentary ticket from Big J’s Montessouri Kindy to the Amazing Body Adventure exhibition in the MIECC, the Mines.

The spectacular exhibition (which ends in KL yesterday and to be showcased in JB in Oct) carries the objective of educating children about human body in a fun-filled but realistic environment. Visitors get a realistic experience by exploring the internal part of the replica giant human body, feeling and seeing the human structure.

At a glance, the theme hall features:

Mouth, which covers teeth, tongue, throat..

Entering the mouth..

"This is the correct brush to your beautiful teeth.."

Whoopie.. "food" sliding down the oesophagus..

"How many lungs does human have?"

TWO!!

"This will happen to your lungs if you SMOKE!!"

"This is your liver which detoxifies any "toxic" from your body.."

"and Stomach to digest your food."

"Pip pop, pip pop.. our heart beat and pumps our blood to our lungs and the rest of our body"

Visual Educational Hall features:

"How do you protect your eyes? Read in a bright light, sit far when you are watching TV.." I like the way they instill positive words, rather than the don’t, don’t, don’t!!

"Ears do not only provide hearing function, but also balancing your body.."

"Human’s largest organ is SKIN.."

"How many bones does human has?"

206!!

"And we have 2 bean-shaped kidneys, to help process waste and extra water..and filter them out of our body…"

And a very witty way to show our excessive fluid is discharged from our body through our ureters…

And a made simple sex education for children on how babies are made. At that moment, my battery went flat and managed just to capture this..

l must say that this exhibition educate and benefit the parents more than the children. I nearly fainted when a parent answered a question posted by the exhibitor guide that adults have 60 teeth!!

I am very impressed with each and every exhibitor guide, fluent English and well versed with what they are presenting.

A short TV cartoon "documentary" covers some of the organs explanation.

Explanation was done in a very interactive way even my short attention span 3-year-old toddler listened attentively from one journey to another as we strolled down from the mouth until the buttock.

We paid RM69 for the 4 of us (RM25 for 1 adult, RM44 for Big & Little J, 1 complimentary ticket). The kids had a great time and coming out from the exhibition knowing that human has a slightly smaller left lung to leave some space for our heart, 4 chambers in our heart, 206 bones, intestines is 6-7 meter long, etc.

I heard parents lamenting about not worth the money, nothing to see one.. etc, etc. Although we can easily find all this information on books, encyclopedias, internet etc, but to feel and getting the kids to get interested is another thing.

I have been trying to get Big J to read his Human Body Disney Encyclopedia but he has always preferred the dinosours, animals, cars, aeroplane versions.

But once we reached home, Big J headed straight for his Encyclopedia on Human Body and this book has since become his new mate. Isn’t RM69 worth spent on?
