Fine tuning on MyKad penalties

July 11, 2006

As usual, it takes the tax payers’ collective protest to move the government. The Home Ministry is now proposing the revision of the penalties if you are caught without MyKad and you maybe allowed to show a photocopied card and produces the original card to the autorities later. Sounds like good news and hopefully this can curp corruption among our uniformed penjaga as well because a RM3,000 to RM20,000 fine is not only too harsh to the rakyat but will definitely encourage briberies.

The not-so-good news is the imposing of heftier penalties of losing MyKad remains 10 times more than the current penalties. Read here for more details. So.. take good care of your MyKad, ya.. other than the tendency of paying high penalties, you may not want to end up with lots of debts..

Well, the cabinet is having their meeting tomorrow to discuss the proposal. Let’s see whether there is any surprising outcome. Will keep you informed… Stay tuned.
