20% MORE juice extracts

May 10, 2006

It is recommended that you eat five servings of fruits and vegetables a day to protect yourself from developing chronic degenerative diseases, including cancer, diabetes and heart diseases. However, with our busy lifestyles, most of us don’t eat nearly enough so we don’t get to reap the benefits that raw fruits and vegetables have to offer.

Supplement your nutritionally-challenged diet with freshly squeezed juices. Because they get digested so quickly, juice fans say that they see positive results within weeks. You will feel more energised and develop a stronger immune system, making you less suscepticle to coughs and colds.

Ready to drink fruit juices off the shelf may not contain 100% fruit juice. Plus if you create your own fruit juices, you can be sure they won’t contain preservatives, food coloring, refined sugars and other additives.  It’s also more economical and you get to concoct your own juice recipes and customise them to your nutritional needs, as well as your family’s.

To extract the essential nutrients that are locked within the fibres of raw fruits and vegetables, look for a juicer that has good extraction efficiency so you can enjoy pure fresh juice with lesser sediments. Panasonic MJ-70M Juicer is proven to have better extraction efficiency than other juicer - squeezes up to 20% more compared to others. So get those creative juices flowing now!

Aging gracefully

I have always been a very vain person. Even before I knew how to make money, I was already using skin care products. Gosh! I can’t imagine myself getting wrinkles, sagging face, yuck..

So imagine my joy when I met an old university mate recently and she commented that I haven’t looked a day older from the last time she met me. And that was almost 10 years ago. Hmm.. I hope she was not pulling my legs. So, I told her my little secret recipe…

How did I reduce my appearance of ageing? I avoid the ultraviolet light as much as possible. Sunlight causes ‘age spots’, wrinkles and other ‘solar damages’ and it is a well-known carcinogen!! I apply daily daytime protective emulsion with SPF15.  While Vitamin A and E, zinc and isoflavones has been shown to be helpful when applied at night, a healthy lifestyle of balanced diet and regular exercise cannot be emphasized enough. I have always kept my mental faculties youthful by constantly learn about new things and of course maintaining a good sense of humor.

Well, eventually I should learn to accept the fact that, “A face without wrinkles is a face without character”

Time to change

Have I changed lately? Am I a better person now compared to last year, 5 years ago, 10 years ago?? I would have been the very same Yek Nee compared to yesterday, yesterweeks, yestermonths, yesteryears if not for one person. He has taught me to see through one very important elements of my life, Personal Development. He has changed me……

I have thought all these while that I am a great daughter to my folks, a good wife, wonderful mother to 2 handsome heroes, excellent boss to my strong hold subordinates, outstanding employee and the list goes on and on. How wrong I was.

Looking back, the last time I spoke to my mom was 2 weeks ago. And she was the one who called me. I have cited busy at work as a reason for not calling her. How disappointed she must have felt though she didn’t show any sign. I realized that I have been away from home for the last 17 years and have not been constantly keeping in touch with all those back home, the small, busy town which I was born  in and brought up, Sibu. I have learnt that relationship is about everything we do in life. Relationship is about how we can level up our values in life, how we innovate and progress in life….
I have been taking too much things for granted. It is time I changed for a better person. It is time I start to learn, to practice life-time learning. It is time I read and listen more…

Thank you, my mentor for changing me. As what Spencer Johnson quoted in his book ‘Who Moved My Cheese’:

“Noticing small changes early helps you adapt to the bigger changes that are to come, if you do not change, you can become extinct”.

Live too short, Die too long

A random study of 4,000 men in Petaling Jaya by Datuk Dr. Tan Hui Meng, a professor of Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya revealed that our average lifespan is now 72 years old BUT we spent the last few years battling ill-health. The alarm was the study also showed that 87% of the respondents had one chronic diseases while 67% had two!! What rotten years we have!

Heredity cannot be changed. Environment and health care services are hard to change. However, every individual can modify lifestyle, to attain best health. Adequate nutrition, habitual diet, exercise, and stress determine lifestyle. Every individual therefore has tremendous potential to prevent disease by changing his or her lifestyle. Small, positive changes can help prevent or delay the onset of diseases.

Remember it is always better to prevent than to cure, especially where chronic diseases are concerned.

Your health is in your own hands….

Anti Oxidants in Dark Chocolate

I found this rather interesting. Extracted from WEBMd.com :

Dark chocolate—but not milk chocolate or dark chocolate eaten with milk—is a potent antioxidant, report Mauro Serafini, PhD, of Italy’s National Institute for Food and Nutrition Nutrition Research in Rome, and colleagues. Their report appears in the Aug. 28 issue of Nature. Antioxidants gobble up free radicals, destructive molecules that are implicated in heart disease and other ailments.

"Our findings indicate that milk may interfere with the absorption of antioxidants from chocolate … and may therefore negate the potential health benefits that can be derived from eating moderate amounts of dark chocolate."

Translation: Say "Dark, please," when ordering at the chocolate counter. Don’t even think of washing it down with milk. And if health is your excuse for eating chocolate, remember the word "moderate" as you nibble.
